Estimates are for illustration only. Actual dates depend on the institution’s settlement and business-day rules; actual earnings depend on the final rate, compounding method, and whether interest is paid out. Figures assume the APY holds for the whole term and interest stays in the CD.

Example APYs are the highest listings in our table for each term with a minimum deposit of $10,000 or less (1 year: 4.65% (online bank); 2 years: 4.82% (online bank); 3 years: 5.00% (credit union); 4 years: 4.95% (online bank); 5 years: 5.00% (credit union)). They’re for illustration — institution details are shared directly after you inquire, and you should confirm rates with each institution. As each rung matures, a classic ladder reinvests it in a new longest-term CD.

FAQs

How is CD interest calculated?
For a CD that compounds, interest ≈ deposit × ((1 + APY)^(months ÷ 12) − 1). Because APY already includes compounding, this gives a close estimate regardless of whether the bank compounds daily or monthly.
Why might my actual maturity date differ?
Institutions may count terms from the funding or settlement date, and maturity dates that fall on weekends or holidays can shift to the next business day.
