Rate methodology
How we gather, check and present CD rates. Last table review: Oct 29, 2026.
What we list
Our tables cover certificates of deposit from FDIC-insured banks, NCUA-insured credit unions, and new-issue brokered CDs sold through brokerages. Each listing shows the institution type, insurance, APY, term, minimum opening deposit, early withdrawal terms (when reported), availability notes, the type of source, a display date, and a listing reference number.
Why institution names aren’t published
Public listings don’t show the bank’s or credit union’s name, so the comparison stays focused on rate, term, timing and eligibility. Institution names are not displayed anywhere on the site, including after you submit a form. When you inquire — about a specific listing or about your term and deposit in general — we follow up with you directly (and, only if you opt in, a participating provider may too) with the institution details and full terms. Inquiring is free and doesn’t commit you to anything.
Where the data comes from
We compile rates from reputable published rate surveys and comparison sources and from institutions’ and brokerages’ own rate pages. We record the source and source date for every listing and show the source type and date publicly; the specific source is shared along with the institution details when we follow up on an inquiry. We don’t set rates and we never publish a figure we can’t trace to a source.
How listings are checked
- Before a rate is added, we record the term, APY, minimum deposit, and source date, and check that the institution is federally insured.
- Where sources disagree, we use the most recent dated figure from the more authoritative source, preferring the institution’s own page.
- We remove or refresh listings whose source date is more than about two weeks old.
- Brokered yields shown as “up to” are the highest yields a brokerage displayed for that term and may include callable CDs.
- Early withdrawal penalties appear only when a source reported them; otherwise we tell you to confirm with the institution.
What the display date means
The display date shown on each listing (and at the top of the site) is the current calendar date in U.S. Eastern Time. It updates automatically each day and is shown for reference only — it does not mean a listing was independently verified on that date. Separately, we record the date each rate was reported by its source and the date we last reviewed it. Those verification dates are kept in our records and updated only after a real review; the display date never overwrites them. Our most recent full table review was on Oct 29, 2026. Rates can change between reviews, so always confirm the current APY and terms with the institution.
What we don’t do
We don’t survey every institution in the country, so our table isn’t a complete list of available CDs. Compensation from providers may influence which providers appear and how prominently, but it never changes a reported rate. See how we make money.
National averages
National average figures come from the survey and date shown next to them.
