Listing standards
What we require before a CD or provider appears on CompareCDRate.com.
Meeting these standards is a condition of being listed or participating. It is not a guarantee of any provider’s products or conduct.
1. Federally insured institutions
Bank CDs must be issued by FDIC-insured banks, and credit union certificates by federally insured credit unions. Brokered CDs must be issued by FDIC-insured banks. Coverage is determined by the FDIC or NCUA within applicable limits and ownership-category rules.
2. Complete, dated terms
Each listing must record the institution, term, APY, minimum deposit, and a source and date. Publicly, listings show everything except the institution’s name, which is shared directly with the consumer after an inquiry, never on the site. Material eligibility limits (such as membership requirements) must be noted.
3. Clear labeling of special features
No-penalty, jumbo, brokered, “up to,” and callable features must be labeled so they’re not mistaken for standard CDs.
4. Full disclosure before any account is opened
Participating providers must give consumers the institution’s identity and complete final terms — including APY, maturity, penalty or call features, and fees — in writing before any account is opened or transaction completed.
5. Respect for consumer choices
Participating providers may contact only consumers who have given consent, must honor opt-out and do-not-contact requests promptly, and must handle consumer information under their own privacy policies and applicable law, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
Provider responsibility
